Weekend for Two

When I discovered there was going to be a hurricane headed our way, which was probably a little late in the game because I don't watch the news, I quickly told my personal shopper (Danny) to get us good and ready for Irene. He of course didn't do any kind of shopping on Thursday so Friday morning I wrote up a list and woke him up at 8:30am. I wanted him to get to the grocery store ASAP because I envisioned only the crappy non-perishable foods left and there was no way I was going to be stuck all weekend eating room temperature cans of beans and store brand corn crisps. Danny dutifully went to the store and bought a lot of great stuff (although it's a good thing we never lost power because I'm not sure how long a pound of turkey and dozen eggs would have lasted without refrigeration). It was strange walking around town on Saturday evening. Most of our neighborhood restaurants were closed. Our corner flower stand was completely empty. Made me realize that even though I hold my breath as I walk by because I am allergic to the flowers, I would most certainly miss them should they one day stop sending me off to work each morning or welcoming me home. We finally found one lone restaurant where we could rest our weary umbrellas and enjoy our last supper before the end.

We ended up not needing anything because the hurricane became a little storm when it passed by our big city, but because we were so prepared we ate like kings and were able to just enjoy the weekend together. There was lots of LOST and I tried to venture out into the world of online shopping but never could get my cart to have enough dollars for free shipping. I cannot justify spending money on shipping when my personal shopper will trek to any store for free. But it was fun to pretend that one day I will be an online shopper.

All in all a lovely and relaxing weekend.

Puppies!

A couple blocks from our apartment is a puppy store. They have a huge window where they put 1-3 puppies in there so that passersby can see the cute puppies. On days where I'm feeling gloomy and need a pick-me-up or even days where I'm feeling happy and want something to top the day off I will walk home and pass the puppy store to see the cute puppies in the window.

The other day I walked by and the only puppy in the window was eating poop.

Plan foiled.
