Bribery in the form of Blueberries

One of Declan's many pediatricians once told us to never use food to pacify. I completely agree just don't completely comply.

Whenever I need to get something done (ie: dinner, dishes, cleaning, etc) and someone needs extra attention I break out the blueberries. Works every time.

This little man sure does love his pretty beads.

Finding Another Way to Cause Trouble

Declan learned how to take the cap off the marker today. In the span of about 2 milliseconds I witnessed shock, dread, sheer joy and plotting his next move.

No Pictures Just Memories

Our baby had a really rough time last night but when 3:30am rolled around it became a magical memory. Declan woke up and wouldn't stop crying and Danny went in the room to try and rock him back to sleep. It wasn't working so I decide to do what my mom would do when we were little. I selected a Disney movie from our collection and the three of us cozied up on the couch under the blankets. We crowded around and devoured a big bowl of blueberries and halved grapes. Finally after we had shared the story of Peter Pan and told Declan to never grow up we took him to the room where he easily fell back to sleep.

When Dad's Away... We Play

We seem to be lacking a Dad every night for bath time this week. We miss you - here's what we have been up to...

"Declan, don't drink the bubbles"

"Come on Mom"

"Please?"

"Just once?"

Thinks he's so slick, slowly lifting the cup

Keeping eyes on Mom while doing exactly what she said not to do

Success!
 "Mom, that was wicked cool!"

Little Artist

Yesterday Danny wasn't supposed to come home until midnight after basketball. So, since Declan only took one nap and our combined moods were cranky, tired and ready to shelf the day, I decided to bathe and put him to bed at 6:30pm. That's super early in our house because he usually isn't in bed until around 8:30pm. So you can imagine my surprise and the chuckles we shared when 2 minutes after I left Declan in his crib Danny waltzed in the front door. He surveyed the room confused as to why it was so quiet and there wasn't a little boy running a muck.

Today has been much more pleasant. Don't know if it's because we are over the molar hill or if it's because I got a great night sleep and I mentally prepared myself for another go.

I've set up our home pretty much so that every space below waist-level is Declan safe. I love that he can explore and get into things that aren't just his toys. I've designated a drawer in our kitchen to house his art supplies - crayons, paper, coloring books, playdoh, stickers, etc and it has been so fun for him to bring things to me and initiate art time

Longest Week Ever

Molars = Misery but at least there are moments of happiness and peace.

Look Mom!

I'm up here!.. Now what?

I'm fearless. (Excited arm waving)

But can I get some help down.

Everything is Fair Game

Almost everything in our apartment these days is fair game to Declan. He opens closet doors and drawers, he can reach things at an amazing height and most recently he started climbing. Most people think 'Oh No! There goes your sanity!' but it's been great. Gives us a reason to keep the place super clean and picked up.

2013 Goals

For many years, I have been making New Years Resolutions. Until this year I have always made each goal specific and measurable (as a good goal-maker should). But this year I went in a different direction. I sat down and simply thought where do I truly want to be this time next year? What important things do I want to be better at? So here it is:

- Rely on God to direct my day
- Reach out and do good
- Make home my heaven on Earth
- Slow down

Back At It Again

And I'm back.

Here's a couple photos from the past few months. I've missed recording the daily details of our little family but it wasn't the right time and season.
